كِتَابٌ فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ ("A Book whose verses have been set forth in detail") — He says: a Book whose signs (verses) have been made clear.

As Muḥammad related to us, saying: Aḥmad related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning His word: فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ , he said: its signs have been made clear.

And His statement: قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا ("as an Arabic Qurʾān") — He, exalted is His mention, says: thus have its signs been set forth in detail.

The scholars of Arabic differed concerning the basis for the accusative ending (naṣb) of the word "qurʾān." Some grammarians of Basra said concerning His statement: كِتَابٌ فُصِّلَتْ : "kitāb" (Book) is the predicate of a subject, by which it is reported that the revelation is a Book; then He said: فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا , whereby the verb was completed by the "verses" (āyāt), until these took the place of the subject, so that "qurʾān" came to stand in the accusative.
