And We would have guided them to a straight path.

The meaning of His word, "and We would surely have guided them," is: and We would have favored them with the straight path (al-ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm). (13)
Then He mentioned, exalted be His praise, what He has promised to the people who obey Him and obey His Messenger — peace be upon him — namely the lasting honor with Him and the exalted dwelling-places in His nearness. Therefore He said: And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, those will be among those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor, namely the prophets, the truthful, the witnesses (martyrs), and the righteous — the verse.
