Tafseer of The Groups · Az-Zumar · 39:13

قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّى عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ

Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

    And the saying of the Exalted: ( Say: Verily, I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a mighty Day ) — He, exalted is His mention, says: Say to them, O Muḥammad: Verily, I fear, if I disobey my Lord in that which He commanded me concerning His worship, while I keep obedience purely for Him and ascribe to Him alone the Lordship — ( the punishment of a mighty Day ): He means the punishment (ʿadhāb) of the Day of Resurrection; that is the Day whose terror is mighty.

    وقوله تعالى: ( قُلْ إِنِّي أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّي عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ) : يقول تعالى ذكره: قل يا محمد لهم إني أخاف إن عصيت ربي فيما أمرني به من عبادته, مخلصا له الطاعة, ومفرده بالربوبية.( عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ) : يعني عذاب يوم القيامة, ذلك هو اليوم الذي يعظم هوله.
