This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return -

The explanation of the word of the Exalted: hādhā wa-inna li-l-ṭāghīna la-sharra maʾāb ("This; and verily, for the transgressors there is surely the worst place of return") (55)
The Exalted, whose remembrance is sublime, means by His word hādhā ("this"): that which I have described for these God-fearing ones (al-muttaqīn). Then He, Mighty and Exalted, began anew with the announcement concerning those who disbelieved in Him, who transgressed against Him and rebelled, and said: wa-inna li-l-ṭāghīn ("and verily, for the transgressors") — and they are those who set themselves against their Lord and disobeyed His command, despite His beneficence toward them — la-sharra maʾāb ("surely the worst place of return"): he says: surely the worst return and destination to which they will go in the Hereafter, after their departure from this earthly life.
As Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī wa-inna li-l-ṭāghīna la-sharra maʾāb: he said: surely the worst place of return.
