And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

Explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ (37:78) ("And We left over him among the later generations") (78).
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, means by His words وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ ("And We left over him among the later generations"): and We preserved for him — namely for Nūḥ — a fair remembrance and a goodly praise among the later generations, that is to say: among the people who came after him, who remember him thereby.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning his words: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ ("And We left over him among the later generations"), he says: he is remembered well.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his words: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ ("And We left over him among the later generations"), he says: We have made for all the prophets a truthful (praising) tongue.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ ("And We left over him among the later generations"), he said: Allah preserved for him the goodly praise among the later generations.
Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī, concerning his words: وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الآخِرِينَ ("And We left over him among the later generations"), he said: the goodly praise.
