And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]

The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ — "And We made his progeny the ones who remained" (37:77).
His saying ( وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ ) means: and We made the progeny of Nūḥ those who remained upon the earth after the destruction of his people. That is because all mankind, from the destruction of the people of Nūḥ until the present day, are nothing but the progeny of Nūḥ. Thus the non-Arabs (al-ʿajam) and the Arabs are the children of Sām, the son of Nūḥ; the Turks, the Slavs (al-ṣaqāliba), and the Khazars are the children of Yāfith, the son of Nūḥ; and the black peoples (al-sūdān) are the children of Ḥām, the son of Nūḥ. Thus have the traditions come, and thus have the scholars spoken.
Muḥammad ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Ibn ʿAshma related to us, saying: Saʿīd ibn Bashīr related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, on the authority of Samura, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, concerning His saying ( وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ ), he said: "Sām, Ḥām, and Yāfith."
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying ( وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ ), he said: all mankind, therefore, belong to the progeny of Nūḥ.
ʿAlī related to us, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying ( وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ ), he says: none remained except the progeny of Nūḥ.
