And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -

( وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ ) ("and you will not be recompensed"): He says: and you, in the Hereafter, when you taste therein the painful punishment, will be rewarded with no recompense ( إلا ) ("except") the reward for ( مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ) ("what you used to do") in this world, namely the deeds of disobedience toward Allah.
