أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ

Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,

    And His statement أَلا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ ("Indeed, out of their falsehood they claim"): the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Indeed, these polytheists (mushrikīn) say, out of their mendacity, لَيَقُولُونَ وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ ("truly: 'Allah has begotten,' and indeed, they are liars") (37:151–152) in this statement of theirs.

    As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ ("Indeed, out of their falsehood they say"), he said: out of their mendacity.

    وقوله ( أَلا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: ألا إن هؤلاء المشركين من كذبهم ( لَيَقُولُونَ وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ ) في قيلهم ذلك. كما حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة ( أَلا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ ) يقول: من كذبهم.
