And His word (And if they deny you, then those who were before them also denied) — the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says, consoling His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, over the denial he experiences from the polytheists (mushrikīn) of his people: and if the polytheists of your people deny you, O Muhammad, then those who were before them, of the communities, also denied — those to whom their messengers came with the clear proofs — He says: with manifest proofs from Allah; and with the scriptures (al-zubur) — He says: and they came to them with the books from Allah.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda concerning His word (with the clear proofs and with the scriptures) — that is: the books.
And His word (and with the illuminating Book) — He says: and there came to them from Allah the Book that illuminates, for whoever ponders it and reflects upon it, that it is the truth.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda concerning His word (and with the illuminating Book) — he repeats the matter while it is one.
