Then I seized the ones who disbelieved, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

And His word Then I seized those who disbelieved; and how was My reproach!: the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: then We destroyed those who denied the message of Our messengers and the truth of that to which they called them by Our signs, and who persisted in their denial. And how was My reproach (nakīr)!: He says: behold then, O Muḥammad (the Prophet ﷺ), how My overturning of their condition was and the descent of My punishment upon them.
