Tafseer of Sheba · Saba · 34:41
They will say, "Exalted are You! You, [O Allah], are our benefactor not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn; most of them were believers in them."
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
They will say: Glory be to You, our Lord — as a glorification of You and an acquittal of what these have ascribed to You of partners and equals — You are our protector (walī), not they: we take no protector apart from You. Nay, they used to worship the jinn.
And just as we have said, the scholars of exegesis have also said.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word And on the day when We gather them all together, then We say to the angels: Was it you that these used to worship?: this is a question, like His word to ʿĪsā Did you say to the people: Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?.
And His word most of them believed in them: he says: most of them believed the jinn; they claimed that they were daughters of Allah — exalted is Allah far above what they say, with a great exaltation.
