And [mention] the Day when He will gather them all and then say to the angels, "Did these [people] used to worship you?"

The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لِلْمَلائِكَةِ أَهَؤُلاءِ إِيَّاكُمْ كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ (34:40) (And on the Day when He gathers them all together; then He will say to the angels: Was it you whom these were worshipping?)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: And on the Day when We gather all these who disbelieved in Allah together; then We will say to the angels: Was it you whom these were worshipping instead of Us? Whereupon the angels disassociate themselves from them.
