The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: On the Day when their faces are turned over in the Fire, they will say: O woe to us, would that we had obeyed Allah and would that we had obeyed the Messenger (66)
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: These unbelievers (kāfir) will find no protector and no helper on the Day when their faces are turned over in the Fire, one state after another. (They will say) — and that is their state in the Fire — (O woe to us, would that we had obeyed Allah) in the worldly life, and would that we had obeyed His messenger in that which he brought us from Him of His command and His prohibition, then we would have been together with the people of the Garden (janna) in the Garden. O what regret and remorse, how tremendous and how great it is!
