And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites but do not harm them, and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

His word: wa-lā tuṭiʿi al-kāfirīna wa-l-munāfiqīna ("And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites") — He says: do not obey the word of a disbeliever (kāfir) nor of a hypocrite (munāfiq), such that you would listen to him when he calls you to negligence in conveying the messages of Allah to those among His creatures to whom He has sent you. wa-daʿ adhāhum ("and disregard their harm") — He says: turn away from their harm against you and be patient therein, and let that not hold you back from carrying out Allah's command among His servants and from fulfilling that with which He has charged you.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His word wa-daʿ adhāhum ("and disregard their harm"), he said: turn away from them.
Bishr related to me, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: wa-daʿ adhāhum ("and disregard their harm") — that is to say: be patient with their harm.
His word: wa-tawakkal ʿalā Allāh ("and put your trust in Allah") — He says: entrust your affairs to Allah and place your trust in Him, for He is sufficient for you against all besides Him, until He brings you His command and His decree. wa-kafā billāhi wakīlan ("and Allah suffices as a Guardian") — He says: and Allah is sufficient for you as the manager of your affairs, as your protector, and as your guardian.
