The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَقْدِرُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ ("Have they not seen that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it? Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe") (30:37).
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: Have these who rejoice when prosperity and abundance befall them, and who lose hope of relief when an adversity befalls them, not then seen with the eyes of their hearts, so that they would know that adversity and prosperity are in the hand of Allah, and that Allah extends provision for whom He wills among His servants and expands it for him, and restricts it for whom He wills and straitens it for him? إنَّ فِي ذلكَ لآياتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤمِنُونَ ("Indeed, in that are signs for a people who believe") — He says: indeed, in His extending it for whom He extends it, and His restricting it for whom He restricts it, and His distinguishing between those of His servants between whom He distinguishes with regard to wealth and poverty, there is a clear indication for whoever holds the proofs of Allah to be true and acknowledges them when he beholds and sees them with his own eyes.
