The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: En op de Dag dat het Uur aanbreekt, zullen de misdadigers in wanhoop verstommen (30:12).
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: And on the Day that the Hour comes to pass, on which Allah separates between His creatures and on which He raises the dead from their graves and gathers them to the place of reckoning, then the criminals will fall silent in despair (yublisu al-mujrimūn). He says: then those who have ascribed associates to Allah and who in the life of this world have committed evil deeds of every kind of wickedness will lose all hope, become dejected, and feel regret, as al-ʿAjjāj said:
"O my friend, do you recognize an effaced abode?
He said: yes, I recognize it, and he fell silent in despair (wa-ablasā)."
And in accordance with what we have said about this spoke the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl).
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his saying: yublisu (they fall silent in despair). He said: they become dejected.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his saying: yublisu al-mujrimūn (the criminals fall silent in despair), that is to say: in the Fire.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning the saying of Allah: And on the Day that the Hour comes to pass, the criminals will fall silent in despair: he said: the mublis is the one upon whom evil has descended; when a man says "ablasa," it means that a trial has descended upon him.
