And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.

The discourse on the explanation of His statement, the Exalted: وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَا مِنْهَا آيَةً بَيِّنَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ (35) (And indeed We have left thereof a manifest sign for a people who understand. (35))
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: And indeed We have left, of Our deed that We carried out against them, a sign — He says: a clear lesson and an admonishing warning — لِقَومٍ يَعْقِلُونَ (for a people who understand) the proofs of Allah, and who reflect upon His admonitions. And that manifest sign, in my opinion, is their effaced trace and the faded remnants of their monuments.
And concerning Qatāda there has been related about this what follows:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَا مِنْهَا آيَةً بَيِّنَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ (And indeed We have left thereof a manifest sign for a people who understand) he said: those are the stones that were rained down upon them.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both of them — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his statement: مِنْهَا آيَةً بَيِّنَةً (thereof a manifest sign) he said: a lesson.
