وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَجْرَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

And We gave to Him Isaac and Jacob and placed in his descendants prophethood and scripture. And We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, he is in the Hereafter among the righteous.

    The statement concerning the interpretation of His word, the Exalted: وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ (27) ("And We bestowed upon him Isḥāq and Yaʿqūb, and We placed prophethood and the Book among his progeny, and We gave him his reward in the worldly life, and indeed, in the Hereafter he is among the righteous").

    The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: And We bestowed upon him, from Ourselves, Isḥāq as a child, and Yaʿqūb after him as the child of his child.

    As Mohammed ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning his word: وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ("And We bestowed upon him Isḥāq and Yaʿqūb"). He said: The two of them are the children of Ibrāhīm.

    And His word: وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ ("And We placed prophethood and the Book among his progeny"), in the sense of the plural — what is meant are the Books (al-kutub), but it is expressed in the singular, after the manner of their saying: "the dirham and the dīnār are plentiful with so-and-so."

    And His word: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life"). The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: And We gave him the reward for his trial for Our sake in the worldly life; وَإنَّهُ ("and indeed, he") is moreover فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ("in the Hereafter surely one of the righteous"). So for him there is likewise the reward of the righteous, without his portion having been diminished by what he was given in the worldly life as reward for his trial for the sake of Allah, with respect to what he has with Him in the Hereafter.

    And it has been said: The reward which Allah, mighty and exalted is He, mentioned that He gave to Ibrāhīm in the worldly life is the goodly praise and the righteous progeny.

    Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life"). He said: The praise.

    Abū al-Sāʾib related to me, saying: Ibn Idrīs related to us, on the authority of Layth, saying: Mujāhid sent a man named Qāsim to ʿIkrima to ask him about his word: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life, and indeed, in the Hereafter he is among the righteous"). He said that he said: His reward in the worldly life is that every religious community takes him as a patron, while with Allah he is among the righteous. He said: Then he returned to Mujāhid, and he said: He has hit upon the truth.

    Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Mandal, on the authority of one whom he named, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life"). He said: The righteous progeny and the praise.

    ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life"). He says: The good remembrance.

    Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his word: وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ("And We gave him his reward in the worldly life"). He said: Well-being, a righteous deed, and a goodly praise; you will not meet anyone of the religious communities but that he regards Ibrāhīm with goodwill and takes him as a patron. وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ("And indeed, in the Hereafter he is among the righteous").

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ (27) يقول تعالى ذكره: ورزقناه من لدنا إسحاق ولدا، ويعقوبَ من بعده وَلَدَ وَلَدٍ. كما حدثني محمد بن سعد، قال: ثني أبي، قال: ثني عمي، قال: ثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن ابن عباس قوله: ( وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ) قال: هما ولدا إبراهيم. وقوله: ( وَجَعَلْنَا فِي ذُرِّيَّتِهِ النُّبُوَّةَ وَالْكِتَابَ ) بمعنى الجمع، يراد به الكُتُب، ولكنه خُرِّج مَخْرج قولهم: كثر الدرهم والدينار عند فلان. وقوله: ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ) يقول تعالى ذكره: وأعطيناه ثواب بلائه فينا في الدنيا(وَإنَّهُ) مع ذلك ( فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ) فله هناك أيضا جزاء الصالحين، غير منتقص حَظُّه بما أعطى في الدنيا من الأجر على بلائه في الله عما له عنده في الآخرة. وقيل: إن الأجر الذي ذكره الله عزّ وجلّ أنه آتاه إبراهيم في الدنيا هو الثناء الحسن، والولد الصالح. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثنا أبو كُرَيب، قال: ثنا ابن يمان، عن سفيان، عن ابن أبي نجيح، عن مجاهد ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ) قال: الثناء. حدثني أبو السائب، قال: ثنا ابن إدريس، عن ليث قال: أرسل مجاهد رجلا يقال له: قاسم، إلى عكرِمة يسأله عن قوله: ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ) قال: قال: أجره في الدنيا، أن كل ملة تتولاه، وهو عند الله من الصالحين، قال: فرجع إلى مجاهد، فقال: أصاب. حدثنا أبو كُرَيب، قال: ثنا ابن يمان، عن مندل، عمن ذكره، عن ابن عباس ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ) قال: الولد الصالح والثناء. حدثني عليّ، قال: ثنا أبو صالح، قال: ثني معاوية، عن عليّ، عن ابن عباس ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ) يقول: الذكر الحسن. حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قَتادة، قوله: ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ أَجْرَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ) قال: عافية وعملا صالحا، وثناء حسنا، فلست بلاق أحدا من الملل إلا يرى إبراهيم ويتولاه ( وَإِنَّهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ).
