Say, "Then bring a scripture from Allah which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful."

    The word of Allah, the Exalted, explained: قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ أَهْدَى مِنْهُمَا أَتَّبِعْهُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ (49)

Allah, the Exalted—may His mention be glorified—says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Say, O Muḥammad, to those who said about the Torah and the Gospel: those two are acts of sorcery that support one another—bring a Book from Allah that gives better guidance than those two toward the way of the Truth and the path of right guidance. أَتَّبِعْهُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ —in your claim that these two Books are acts of sorcery and that the Truth lies in something else.

And in line with what we have said about this, the exegetes also spoke.

    * Mention of those who said this:

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my paternal uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās—he said: Allah, the Exalted, said: قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ أَهْدَى مِنْهُمَا ... the verse.

Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said—and Allah said: قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ أَهْدَى مِنْهُمَا —then those two Books, the Book that was brought by Mūsā and the Book that was brought by Muḥammad ﷺ.
