Allah the Exalted says: the wrath and anger of Allah were made obligatory upon those who denied His signs بِمَا ظَلَمُوا — "because of their wrongdoing" — that is to say: because of their denial of the signs of Allah, on the day when they are gathered together. فَهُمْ لا يَنْطِقُونَ — "so that they do not speak" — that is to say: they utter no argument at all by which they might avert from themselves the tremendous [punishment] that has befallen them and descended upon them through the Word [i.e., the verdict].
