Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says to His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: قُلْ (Say) — O Muḥammad — to these deniers of what you have brought them of tidings from your Lord: سِيرُوا فِي الأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا (Travel through the land and look) at the dwellings of those who were before you among the deniers of Allah's messengers, and at their abodes — how are they? Did Allah not destroy them and annihilate their inhabitants because of their denial of His messengers and their opposition to their counsels given to them, so that the dwellings stood empty of their inhabitants and their traces and remnants were effaced? For that was the outcome of their crimes, and that is the way of your Lord with everyone who walks their path in denying the messengers of their Lord — and Allah will do that to you if you do not hasten in returning from your unbelief and your denial of the messenger of your Lord.
