So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her to be of those who remained behind.

Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says: We saved Lot and the members of his household — except his wife — from Our punishment when We sent it down upon them; then قَدَّرْنَاهَا (We decreed her) — that is: the wife of Lot, We decreed by Our ordinance to be مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ (among those who remained behind), that is: among those who stayed behind.
