He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

He said: "he wants to drive you out," and he directed the address to the prominent ones around him among the Copts, while what was meant by it were the Children of Israel — for the Copts had taken the Children of Israel as slaves (ʿabīd) into their possession and used them as servants and subjugated ones for themselves. Therefore he said to them: يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكُمْ (he wants to drive you out), while he meant: he wants to drive your servants (khuddam) and slaves (ʿabīd) out of Egypt to Syria.
I say the meaning of this in this way for this reason, because Allah had sent Moses to Pharaoh only to command him to send the Children of Israel along with him. He said to him and to his brother: "Go to Pharaoh and say: we are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, that you send the Children of Israel with us."
And His word: فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ (What then do you command?) — He said: what do you command concerning the matter of Moses, and what do you advise as opinion regarding him?
