Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says: Thamūd transgressed the command of their prophet Ṣāliḥ, peace be upon him, and hamstrung the she-camel — the she-camel concerning which Ṣāliḥ had said: do not touch her with harm — whereupon they regretted hamstringing her, but their regret availed them nothing.
