ٱلَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ

Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend."

    They are the nine men who spread corruption on the earth and did not do good — the men from Thamūd whom Allah, exalted is His praise, described with His word: وَكَانَ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ تِسْعَةُ رَهْطٍ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا يُصْلِحُونَ — that is to say: those who live on Allah's earth in disobedience to Him and do not do good; he says: and they do not reform themselves by acting in obedience to Allah.

    وهم الرهط التسعة الذين كانوا يفسدون في الأرض, ولا يصلحون من ثمود الذين وصفهم الله جلّ ثناؤه بقوله: وَكَانَ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ تِسْعَةُ رَهْطٍ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا يُصْلِحُونَ يقول: الذين يسعون في أرض الله بمعاصيه, ولا يصلحون, يقول: ولا يصلحون أنفسهم بالعمل بطاعة الله.
