And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me."

And His words: وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ (and they have a charge against me) — that is to say: the people of Pharaoh have against me a charge on account of a sin I committed against them, and that is the killing of the person whom he killed from among them.
In accordance with what we have said, the exegetes spoke.
— Mention of who said this:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to me; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his words: وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُونِ (and they have a charge against me, so I fear that they will kill me): he said: "The killing of the person whom he killed from among them."
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to me, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid, who said: "The manslaughter that Mūsā committed."
He said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Abū Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his words: وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ — he said: "The manslaughter."
And His words: فَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُونِ (so I fear that they will kill me) — that is to say: I fear that they will kill me in retaliation (qiṣāṣ) for the person I killed from among them.
