And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant.

Tabari (1 passage)

  1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

Allah — exalted be His praise — addresses His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and therein threatens the polytheists of his people on account of their disbelief in Allah and their denial of His messenger. He warns them against the descent of His punishment upon them, like that which descended upon the peoples before them who had denied their messengers. وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا — "O Muḥammad, We gave Mūsā مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ" — by this the Torah is meant, just as We have given you the Furqān. وَجَعَلْنَا مَعَهُ أَخَاهُ هَارُونَ وَزِيرًا — that is to say: a helper and a supporter.
