Allah, exalted is His mention, says: And there comes to you, O Muḥammad, from these polytheists no comparison which they put forward but that We bring you the Truth with which We refute what they have brought, and a better explanation thereof.
As al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj — وَلا يَأْتُونَكَ بِمَثَلٍ إِلا جِئْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ — he said: the Scripture with which you refute the comparisons which they put forward — and a better explanation.
By His word وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيرًا He means: and better than the comparison they brought in exposition and elucidation.
In the same manner in which we have explained this, the exegetes also spoke.
* Mention of those who said this:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيرًا — he said: a better elucidation.
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيرًا — he said: exposition.
It was related to me, on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd informed us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيرًا — he said: elucidation.
