Allah warns you against returning to the likes of this [conduct], ever, if you should be believers.

Allah, exalted be His mention, says: Allah admonishes you and forbids you, through the verses of His Book, ever to return to a deed resembling what you did in the affair of ʿĀʾisha — taking up the slander that was circulated about her, with your tongues, and saying with your mouths that of which you have no knowledge concerning her — never again. إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ("if you are believers"): that is to say: if you take to heart the admonitions of Allah, obey His command, and desist from what He has forbidden you.
In accordance with what we have said concerning this also spoke the scholars of interpretation.
