And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise.

The Exalted says: Were it not for Allah's grace toward you, O people, and His mercy upon you — and that He continually turns back to His creation with His tenderness and gentleness, wise in His governance over them and His guidance of them — then He would have punished you immediately for your acts of disobedience and disgraced the guilty among you through their sins. But He has kept your sins concealed for you and has refrained from disgracing you with them immediately, out of mercy toward you and as a favor to you. So be grateful for His blessings, and cease to imagine for yourselves anything that He has forbidden you among His prohibited matters. The absence of any further response (in the text) is a result of the self-evident nature of what is intended for the understanding listener.
