حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرْجِعُونِ

[For such is the state of the disbelievers], until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back

    The Exalted says: Until, when one of these polytheists (mushrikīn) meets death and beholds with his own eyes the descent of Allah's command upon him, he says — on account of the enormity of what he beholds of that which awaits him of Allah's punishment (ʿadhāb), full of remorse over what has passed and bitterly regretting what he has previously neglected of obedience to Allah and of imploring for absolution —: رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ (My Lord, send me back) to the worldly life; return me there.

    يقول تعالى ذكره: حتى إذا جاء أحدَ هؤلاء المشركين الموتُ، وعاين نـزول أمر الله به، قال:- لعظيم ما يعاين مما يَقْدم عليه من عذاب الله تندّما على ما فات، وتلهُّفا على ما فرط فيه قبل ذلك، من طاعة الله ومسألته للإقالة-: ( رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ ) إلى الدنيا فردّوني إليها.
