Tafseer of The Believers · Al-Muminoon · 23:94
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people."

And His statement: فَلا تَجْعَلْنِي (then do not place me) is the answer to His statement: إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّي (if You show me), with the invocation placed between them as an interruption. Had there been no conditional clause before this statement, this would not have been permissible in usage. One does not say: "O Zayd, then stand up," nor: "O Lord, then forgive" — for the invocation is a new beginning, and likewise the command after it is a new beginning, into which the fāʾ and the wāw do not enter, unless it is an answer to a preceding expression.
