And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allah who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.'

Allah, the Exalted, says: فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ (And when you have settled, you and those with you, upon the ship) — that is to say: when you have established yourself in the ship, you and those of your household who accompany you whom you have taken with you, riding in it as a passenger, seated high above upon it — فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (then say: All praise is due to Allah, Who has saved us from the wrongdoing people) — that is to say: from the polytheists (mushrikīn).
