He, exalted be His remembrance, says: whoever calls upon another object of worship alongside the Worshipped One to whom alone worship is due — he has for that no argument, nor any proof for what he says and does.
As Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — all on the authority of Ibn Abī Nadjīḥ, on the authority of Mudjāhid, concerning His word: لا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ (he has for that no proof) — he said: no argument.
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥadjdjādj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Djuraydj, on the authority of Mudjāhid: لا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ — he said: no proof.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Ḥakkām related to us, on the authority of ʿAnbasa, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, on the authority of al-Qāsim ibn Abī Bazza, on the authority of Mudjāhid, concerning His word: لا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ — he said: no argument.
As for His word: فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِ (his reckoning rests only with his Lord) — He says: the reckoning of his evil deed rests with his Lord, Who will give him his recompense in full when he arrives before Him. إِنَّهُ لا يُفْلِحُ الْكَافِرُونَ (verily, the unbelievers (kāfir) do not succeed) — He says: verily, the people of unbelief (kufr) in Allah will attain no success with Him, and they will not reach eternity and abiding permanence in bliss.
