But those whose scales are light - those are the ones who have lost their souls, [being] in Hell, abiding eternally.

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ (And whoever's scales are light) — that is to say: the scales of his good deeds are light, so that the scales of his evil deeds outweigh them — فَأُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ — that is to say: they have wronged themselves with regard to their share of the mercy of Allah — فِي جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدُونَ — that is to say: they abide forever in the Fire of Hell (jahannam).
