Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says to His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: Mention, O Muhammad, in the Book Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm, and relate his story — truly, he was one who did not break his promise and did not provoke, but when he made a promise to his Lord or to one of His servants, he fulfilled it.
As al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning His word إِنَّهُ كَانَ صَادِقَ الْوَعْدِ (truly, he was one who was true to his promise): he said: every promise he made to his Lord, he carried it out.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith informed me, that Sahl ibn ʿAqīl related to him that Ismāʿīl, peace be upon him, promised a man to meet him at a certain place, but the man forgot it; Ismāʿīl, however, remained waiting at the appointed place and spent the night there, until the man came the following day. The man asked: Did you not leave from here? He answered: No. The man said: I had forgotten it. He said: I was not willing to leave here until you would come — and therein lay his truthfulness.
