He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "

(قَالَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ) — Allah the Exalted says: Djibrīl said to her: "So is the matter, as you describe — that no human being has touched you and that you were not an adulteress. But your Lord said: 'It is easy for Me' — that is to say: the creation of the boy whom I told you that I would bestow upon you is easy for Me and poses no difficulty for Me to create him and to give him to you without a man who impregnated you."
(وَلِنَجْعَلَهُ آيَةً لِلنَّاسِ) — he says: "And so that We may make the boy whom We bestow upon you a sign and a proof of Our creative power, We bestow him upon you." (وَرَحْمَةً مِنَّا) — he says: "and a mercy from Us for you and for whoever believes in him and acknowledges him — We create him from you." (وَكَانَ أَمْرًا مَقْضِيًّا) — he says: "and his creation from you was a matter that Allah had decreed and that was established in His judgment and His foreknowledge that it would come to pass from you." As Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq: he said: one whom I do not suspect related to me, on the authority of Wahb ibn Munabbih: (وَكَانَ أَمْرًا مَقْضِيًّا) — that is to say: Allah has decreed this, and there is no escaping it.
