Allah the Exalted says: Maryam said to Djibrīl: أنَّى يَكُونُ لي غُلامٌ — "How shall I have a boy? In what manner shall I have a boy — by means of a husband whom I marry and by whom I conceive him, or will Allah begin his creation in me directly?" (وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ) — "no human being from the descendants of Adam has touched me through a lawful marriage" (ولَمْ أَكُ) — "and now that I have not been touched in a lawful manner by any of them" (بَغِيًّا) — "an adulteress who did that in the forbidden way and thereby became pregnant through fornication (zinā)."
As Mūsā related to us, he said: ʿAmr related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: (وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِيًّا) — he said: "a prostitute."
