1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

   The explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الأرْضِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا (18:84)

   إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الأرْضِ — Allah says: We made things easy for him in the earth and smoothed the way for him. وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا — that is to say: We gave him of all things a means by which to reach it — and that means is the knowledge of it.

   In accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes spoke.

   ʿAlī related to me; he said: ʿAbd Allāh related to us; he said: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا . He said: "Knowledge."

   Bishr related to us; he said: Yazīd related to us; he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا : "that is to say: knowledge."

   Yūnus related to me; he said: Ibn Wahb informed us; he said: Ibn Zayd said concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا : "knowledge of every matter."

   Al-Qāsim related to us; he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us; he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا . He said: "Knowledge of everything."

   Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me; he said: my father related to me; he said: my uncle related to me; he said: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا : "knowledge."

   It was related to me, on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us; he said: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا : "knowledge."

   القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الأرْضِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُل ّشَيْء سَبَبًا (84) وقوله: ( إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الأرْضِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) يقول: إنا وطأنا له في الأرض، ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) يقول وآتيناه من كل شيء، يعني ما يتسبب إليه وهو العلم به. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني عليّ، قال ثنا عبد الله، قال: ثني معاوية، عن عليّ، عن ابن عباس، قوله ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) يقول: علما. حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة قوله ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) أي علما. حدثني يونس، قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب، قال: قال : قال ابن زيد ، في قوله ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) قال: من كلّ شيء علما.. - حدثنا القاسم، قال ثنا الحسين ، قال: ثني حجاج، عن ابن جريج، قوله ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) قال: علم كلّ شيء. حدثني محمد بن سعد، قال: ثني أبي، قال: ثني عمي، قال: ثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن ابن عباس ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) علما. حُدثت عن الحسين، قال: سمعت أبا معاذ يقول: ثنا عبيد، قال: سمعت الضحاك يقول في قوله ( وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا ) يقول: علما.
