The explanation of the word of Allah, the Exalted: وَيُنْذِرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا (And to warn those who said: 'Allah has taken a child' [18:4])
Allah, the Exalted, says: Muḥammad also warns those people الَّذِينَ قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا (who said: Allah has taken a child) — among the polytheists (mushrikīn) of his people and others — of Allah's torment and His immediate vengeance and deferred punishment because of what they said.
As Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, concerning وَيُنْذِرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا — he meant the Quraysh in their saying that they worshipped only the angels, and that they are the daughters of Allah.
