In which they will remain forever

The explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: مَاكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا (abiding therein forever — verse 3)
That is to say: remaining therein eternally; they will not be removed from it, nor will they be taken away. The word mākithīna (abiding) is in the accusative as an adverbial qualifier of circumstance (ḥāl), pertaining to the previously mentioned أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا — namely in that circumstance, that is, the circumstance of their abiding in that reward.
And in accordance with the import of what we have said about this, the exegetes spoke.

Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, concerning وَيُبَشِّرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا * مَاكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا : that is, in an abode of eternal residence, they will not die therein — those who gave faith to what you brought from Allah, and acted according to what you commanded them.
