The Exalted says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: By your Lord, O Muḥammad — We shall surely question them all — those who broke the Qurʾān into pieces in the worldly life — in the Hereafter about what they did in the worldly life: about what We commanded them, and about what We sent you to them with from the verses of My Book which I sent down for them, and about what We called them to accept: namely the acknowledgment of Me, My oneness, and freedom from the idols and the graven images.
In accordance with what We have said about this, the exegetes also spoke.
Mention of who said that:
Abū Kurayb and Abū al-Sāʾib related to us, they said: Ibn Idrīs related to us — he said: I heard Layth, on the authority of Bashīr, on the authority of Anas — concerning فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ — he said: about the testimony that there is no god but Allah.
Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq related to us, he said: Abū Aḥmad related to us, he said: Sharīk related to us, on the authority of Layth, on the authority of Bashīr ibn Nahīk, on the authority of Anas, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ — فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ — he said: "About lā ilāha illā Allāh."
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Layth, on the authority of Bashīr, on the authority of Anas, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ — in accordance with the foregoing.
