And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.

The Exalted says: And this town — the town of Sadūm — lies upon a clear, established road that the passerby sees; it is not hidden and does not move from its place, so that a person of understanding would not fail to know its fate and the consequences of disobedience to Allah and disbelief in Him.
In agreement with what We have said concerning this, the exegetes also spoke.
Mention of who said that:
Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: Ibn Numayr related to us, on the authority of Warqāʾ; and al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad related to us, saying: Shabāba related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us; and al-Muthanná related to me, saying: Isḥāq related to us, saying: ʿAbdallāh related to us, on the authority of Warqāʾ; and Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us — all on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid — concerning his words وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ — he said: upon a known road (biṭarīq maʿlam).
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — in accordance with the foregoing.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda — وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ — he says: upon a clear road.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ : road — al-sabīl means: the road.
It was related to me from al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ : he says: upon a known road.
