فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

    The Exalted says: We turned their land upside down and made a rain of stones fall upon them — of baked clay mud.

    As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of ʿIkrima — concerning وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ — that is to say: of clay.

    يقول تعالى ذكره: فجعلنا عالي أرضهم سافلها، وأمطرنا عليهم حِجارة من سجيل (1) . كما حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، عن عكرمة ( وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ ) أي من طين. ------------------------ الهوامش: (1) لعل الأصل ( من سجيل) : أي من طين ، كما يظهر بتأمل .
