His word فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ — Allah, exalted be His praise, says: the thunderbolt of the punishment — and that is the cry (al-ṣayḥa) — seized them at sunrise (mushriqīna). He says: when the sun rose. "Mushriqīna" and "muṣbiḥīna" are in the accusative as circumstantial qualifiers (omstandigheidsbepalingen), with the meaning: when they entered upon the morning, and when they were at sunrise. It is said of them: a cry was raised against them (ṣīḥa bihim), when they were destroyed.
In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.
Mention of those who said this:
Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ : he said: when the sun rose — that is the meaning of mushriqīna.
