1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

   Allah — may His praise be exalted — says: There is no thing of the rains but its storehouses are with Us; and We send it down only in a determined measure for each land, the limit and extent of which is known to Us.

   In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

   Mention of those who said this:

   Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Ibn Idrīs related to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād informed us, on the authority of a man, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh, saying: There is no land that receives more rain than another land; rather Allah determines its distribution over the earth. Then he recited: وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ.

   Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, on the authority of Abū Juḥayfa, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh, saying: There is no year that has more rain than another year, but Allah diverts it away from whom He wills. Then he cited: وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ.

   Al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad related to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Mahdī al-Maṣīṣī related to us, saying: ʿAlī ibn Mushar related to us, on the authority of Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, on the authority of Abū Juḥayfa, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd: There is no year that has more rain than another year, but Allah distributes it where He wills — one year here, another year there. Then he recited: وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ.

   Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, saying: Ibn Jurayj said, concerning: وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ: he said: the rain in particular.

   Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Hushaym related to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Sālim informed us, on the authority of al-Ḥakam ibn ʿUtayba, concerning: وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ: he said: There is no year that has more rain than another or that has less; rather rain is given to one people while another is withheld from it, and sometimes it is upon the sea. And it has been transmitted to us that with the rain there descend more angels than the number of the descendants of Iblīs and the descendants of Adam combined — to keep track of every drop, wherever it falls and whatever it causes to grow.

   يقول تعالى ذكره: وما من شيء من الأمطار إلا عندنا خزائنه ، وما ننـزله إلا بقدر لكل أرض معلوم عندنا حدّه ومبلغه. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك ، قال أهل التأويل. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثنا أبو كريب، قال: ثنا ابن إدريس، قال: أخبرنا يزيد بن أبي زياد، عن رجل، عن عبد الله، قال: ما من أرض أمطر من أرض، ولكن الله يقدره في الأرض ، ثم قرأ ( وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ ). حدثنا ابن حميد، قال: ثنا جرير، عن يزيد بن أبي زياد، عن أبي جحيفة، عن عبد الله، قال: ما من عام بأمطر من عام، ولكن الله يصرفه عمن يشاء ، ثم قال ( وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ ). حدثنا الحسن بن محمد، قال: ثنا إبراهيم بن مهدي المصيصي، قال: ثنا علي بن مسهر، عن يزيد بن أبي زياد، عن أبي جحيفة، عن عبد الله بن مسعود: ما من عام بأمطر من عام، ولكن الله يقسمه حيث شاء، عاما هاهنا وعاما هاهنا ، ثم قرأ ( وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ ). حدثنا القاسم، قال: ثنا الحسين، قال: ثني حجاج، قال: قال ابن جريج ( وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ ) قال: المطر خاصة. حدثنا القاسم، قال: ثنا الحسين، قال: ثنا هشيم، قال: أخبرنا إسماعيل بن سالم، عن الحكم بن عتيبة، في قوله ( وَمَا نُنـزلُهُ إِلا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ ) قال: ما من عام بأكثر مطرا من عام ولا أقل، ولكنه يمطر قوم ، ويُحرم آخرون، وربما كان في البحر ، قال: وبلغنا أنه ينـزل مع المطر من الملائكة أكثر من عدد ولد إبليس وولد آدم يحصون كلّ قطرة حيث تقع وما تُنبت.
