Abū Jaʿfar said: Allah the Exalted says: Is he who knows that what Allah has revealed to you, O Muḥammad, is the truth—so that he believes in it, affirms it, and acts upon it—like him who is blind and therefore does not recognize the substance of Allah's proof concerning it, and does not know which obligations (farāʾiḍ) Allah has imposed upon him?
The exegetes explained it in accordance with what we have said.
Mention of who said that:
20329 — Isḥāq related to us, saying: Hishām related to us, on the authority of ʿAmr, on the authority of Saʿīd, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: (Is he who knows that what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth)—he said: these are people who benefited from what they heard of the Book of Allah, who understood it and retained it. Allah said: (like him who is blind)—he said: blind to the good, so that he does not see it.
His word: (Only those possessed of understanding take heed)—he says: only those endowed with understanding take heed of the signs of Allah and draw a lesson from them—and these are "al-albāb", the plural of "lubb".
