The explanation of the words of Allah, the Exalted: وَلَمَّا جَهَّزَهُمْ بِجَهَازِهِمْ قَالَ ائْتُونِي بِأَخٍ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَبِيكُمْ أَلا تَرَوْنَ أَنِّي أُوفِي الْكَيْلَ وَأَنَا خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ (And when he had furnished them with their provisions, he said: "Bring me a brother of yours from your father; do you not see that I give full measure and that I am the best of hosts?" — 12:59)
Abū Jaʿfar says: He says: And when Yūsuf had loaded his brothers with provisions for their father — he loaded for each of them his camel full — he said to them: (iʾtūnī bi-akhin lakum min abīkum): so that I may load for you one extra camel and you thereby gain an additional camel-load; (alā tarawna annī ūfī al-kayl): and I shortchange no one of it; (wa-anā khayru al-munzilīn): and I am the best of those who receive guests in this city; I make you my guests. As:
19466 — Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: Abū Ḥudhayfa related to us, saying: Shibl related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: (wa-anā khayru al-munzilīn) — Yūsuf says this: I am the best of those who offer hospitality in Egypt.
19467 — Ibn Ḥumayd related to me, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, who said: When Yūsuf had furnished those of the people whom he furnished, he loaded for each of them a camel according to their number, and then said to them: (iʾtūnī bi-akhin lakum min abīkum): I will load for you one extra camel, or something to that effect; (alā tarawna annī ūfī al-kayl): that is to say: I shortchange the people in nothing; (wa-anā khayru al-munzilīn): that is to say: I am better to you than another; for if you bring him, your status with me will be honored and I will treat you well, and you will thereby gain an extra camel beyond your number, for I do not give any man more than one camel; فَإِنْ لَمْ تَأْتُونِي بِهِ فَلا كَيْلَ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي وَلا تَقْرَبُونِ: do not come near my land.
19468 — Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his word: (iʾtūnī bi-akhin lakum min abīkum): he means Binyāmīn, the brother of Yūsuf from both his father and his mother.
