The exposition of the explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted:
Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: We sent to the people of ʿĀd their brother Hūd, who said to them: "O my people, worship Allah" — Him alone, without any partner — instead of what you worship besides Him of gods and idols. مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَهٍ غَيْرُهُ — that is to say: there is for you no worshipped being who deserves worship except Him; so devote yourselves sincerely to Him in worship and single Him out in divinity. إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلا مُفْتَرُونَ — that is to say: you are, in your ascribing of partners to Him in the form of gods and idols, nothing but people of lying and falsification who invent falsehood, for there is no god besides Him.
