[Through a messenger, saying], "Do not worship except Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings,"

The Explanation of the Words of Allah the Exalted: أَلا تَعْبُدُوا إِلا اللَّهَ إِنَّنِي لَكُمْ مِنْهُ نَذِيرٌ وَبَشِيرٌ (that you worship none but Allah; truly, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings) (11:2)
Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: thereafter it is expounded with [the command] that you worship none but Allah alone, without any partner, and that you cast off the idols (āliha) and the equals (andād). Then Allah the Exalted says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Say, O Muḥammad, to the people — إِنَّنِي لَكُمْ (truly, I am to you) — from the side of Allah — نَذِيرٌ (a warner), who warns you of His punishment for committing His prohibitions and for worshipping the idols — وَبَشِيرٌ (and a bringer of good tidings), who brings you the glad tidings of the abundant reward for obedience to Him and for sincerely worshipping and devoting religion to Him alone.
